AECP Level 2: Beautiful Details

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Good day crafty friends! Thank you so much for stopping by. Well, I earned my Level 1 certification with Altenew, and it's time for Level 2! Today's card features some tricks I learned in the Altenew Video Beautiful Details by Marika Rahtu. The techniques provided in this video are a great place to start when you want to add just a little something more to your work, creating a one of a kind image that is your own.

I used Altenew Fairy Tale Florals Coordinating stamp & die set for my card submission, and added the petal details with colored pencils and Copic markers. To begin, I stamped my image using Fade Out ink to so there would be no lines.

Once my coloring was complete, I took my die and placed my paper through the die so only the edge would be cut. I used foam tape to the back of the flower panel to add some dimension to my project. Next, I cut 2 strips of black card stock 1/4" thick and adhered it 1/4" from the top and bottom, just to add something else to the card. Last, I used a sentiment from the stamp set and placed it directly on the card base using Altenew Jet Black Ink, and added some small crystals to add some bling.

Coloring the flowers took quite a bit of time, and could be split into several different sit downs if you are pressed for time. The pencil really added some depth to each petal, and I was able to add a shade effect where the petals were laying on top of one another.

Tips & Tricks

  • When Coloring your flower petals make each pencil stroke light as you are coloring you can build up, or even add a darker color to add tone.

  • Make sure your stroke marks flow with the direction of the petal itself.

  • Make sure each stroke mark is a different length from the last or you will end up with a solid block of color in your flower petal and leaf.
