AECP Level 2: Color Your Day

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Happy Day friends! I am so proud to be submitting this card, and believe that I have finally found "my thing" in water coloring. This is my submission for the Altenew Color Your Day tutorial with Therese Calvrid. Therese discussed the color wheel, and gave tons of information on how to put your color wheel to good use, and understand what it all means. I felt like I was back in my college painting class, and decided to dig out my paint brushes.

This card features the Altenew Fairy Tale Florals stamp, Altenew Sentiment Strips 2, and Altenew Watercolor Pan Set. I used the wet on wet painting technique, and really wanted to achieve a loose fluid looking card.

Card Instructions

  • Cut a piece of watercolor paper and block it with masking tape on a clipboard, or piece of plastic large enough to hold the card panel.

  • Stamp image with VersaMark Ink, and heat emboss using your choice of embossing powders. (I chose to use Altenew Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder)

  • Next, generously cover the entire card panel with water using a large paint brush. Grab your watercolor and start putting color down. I used blue for my flowers, and followed it with a complementary color of green. I set the panel aside to dry.

  • Once the card panel has dried add more details to your flower petals and leaves my adding layers of color. If you have too much water you can absorb the excess with a paper towel. Continue this process until you have achieved your desired look.

  • I used foam tape to adhere the card panel down to a dark blue card tent.

For the sentiment I used a piece of navy card stock and embossed it using white embossing powder. I used foam tape to adhere it to the front card panel, and added some sequins.

Tips & Tricks

  • When applying your color start with a very light watered down wash and add color as you go.

  • Use 2 different water jars for cleaning your brushes in between. One to clean your brush between changing paint colors, and another to add clean water to your pallet.

  • Lay brushes down flat to dry

I had a lot of fun creating this card, and plan on pulling out my water colors more often. It was so relaxing, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I encourage you to let your hair down and try something new today! Thank you so much for stopping by. I look forward to visiting with you again. Have a blessed day!
