AECP Level 2: Magical Marker Techniques

Oh happy day! Oh happy day! Hello everyone! I sure hope you are having a fine day as I present to you one more card for my AECP certification. We are down to the last 3, and I'm having such a blast letting loose with my imagination and creating some really different style cards for me.

Today, I have a card for you I created using glossy cardstock, a stencil, and alcohol-diluted Copic marker ink. I have to say this was such a fun card for me to make, and allowed me to find a different way to use my stencils. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! So, what do you think?

To Make this card you need any type of alcohol ink, a stencil, a hard bristled paint brush, and some rubbing alcohol. I have used Altenew's Flowing Butterfly stencil, Copic Marker RV06, Razzleberry Crisp embossing powder, and I found an old paint brush that was feeling lost and lonely in a drawer full of pencils. I added some Pink Studio Kata crystals.

Card Instructions

Ready to rock and roll? Lets do it! Let's grab a piece of glossy cardstock from our stash and cut it 4" x 5 1/4", and pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol in a dish. (like water for water coloring, only a much smaller amount.). You should also have a face covering to avoid inhaling the fumes from the alcohol.

  • Take your stencil and place it where you would like it the imaged placed.

  • Using your Copic Marker scribble some ink down on a silicone or glass craft mat in your desired color. I don't know why, but I always run to the pink!

  • Pick up some rubbing alcohol with your paint brush and generously dry it out on a paper towel. Next, pick up some ink and simply pounce the color over the stencil until you have the desired look you are going for. You can go as light or dark as you want by adding layers letting the first one dry.

  • Stencil to your heart's content and add your sentiment. I didn't want to cover the background on my card panel so I used a piece of vellum to heat emboss my sentiment "Choose Kindness". You could use any sentiment you wanted, and this would still look amazing.

  • Adhere your sentiment, and add double sided foam tape to the back of your card panel and place it down on your the base of your card. I don't think you can ever go wrong adding some bling so I did within several of the butterflies.

Tips & Tricks

  • In order to keep the detail of your stencil your paintbrush needs to be kept more dry than damp to pounce the ink. If you would like a more fluid look with your stenciling you could definitely a more diluted brush. (Not too much because it will distort the paper).

  • Keep your face covered to avoid inhaling too many fumes from the alcohol

  • Clean your stencil using rubbing alcohol

I'm so grateful for each of you coming to visit today. Please drop a comment below so I know you've stopped by. I would also love to see what beautiful creations you make using this technique. Enjoy the rest of your day no matter where you may be located, and remember that life is too short to be wasted on negative energy. Cheers!
